Drop Top Knitting Pattern

Most knitters aren’t too into drop sleeves because of the overly simple shape and associations with oversized ’80s sweaters, but drop sleeves are showing up everywhere now in a refined and slender new form. Taking inspiration from high end brands like Vince, Mango, and Opening Ceremony, this sweater has a figure flattering modern silhouette.

The body is oversized, draping over any areas of self consciousness that you may have. Those with a well defined waist can tuck it into their pants to show their shape. It doesn’t add visual bulk to your silhouette like most slouchy sweaters because the sleeves fit your arms and the scoop neck shows off your collarbones. The shoulders have shaping to keep the dropped sleeves from making your shoulders look like they’re melting.

Sizing:

Bust Measurement (from body): XS-30” (S-34”, M-38”, L-42”, 1X-46”, 2X-50”)

Garment Width: 18” (22”, 24”, 24”, 26” 28”)
Garment Length: 22.5” (23”, 23.25”, 23.5”, 23.75”, 24”)

Yardage: 680 (760, 830, 920, 980, 1060)

Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cotton DK or a DK weight cotton (sport-worsted weight yarns may work, swatch first though. Sugar ‘n Cream works great for a super cheap project).

Needles: Size 10 (6mm) straight needles, size 8 (5mm) DPNs or 16” circular.

Gauge: 15 stitches and 20 rows for a 4” square of stockinette stitch.

Other Materials: Row counter, sewing needle, scrap yarn in a contrasting color for marking rows, stitch holder, crochet hook.
