New Pattern: The Stacktangle Scarf

New Pattern: The Stacktangle Scarf

The Stacktangle Scarf is a new crochet pattern from Patrick Stewart and Xandy Peters. This scarf is worked horizontally in a granny stitch pattern. The inclusion of stacked increases and decreases turns simple stripes into complex looking colorwork. Pat and I based this pattern off of our earlier Stacktangle Blanket collaboration. The charted and written instructions include 3 different lengths and it's easy to make adjustments to the stitch count.

The pattern is worked in a Main Color and 2 contrasting color yarns. You can read more about quantities in the Pattern Info section of this post. Each end of the scarf is embellished with a generous length of Fringe, continuing the stripes all the way to the ends of the project. There's a lot of room in the pattern to play with color, we even included bonus instructions for a two color version.

This project is well suited for crocheters who are familiar with basic stitches and are ready to take on some new skills. If you've had experience with the chain stitch and the double crochet stitch, you have all the skills you need to start this pattern. There are a few increases and decreases that you may not have seen before, but we've included photo tutorials of anything that's not widely known.

Pat is a more experienced crocheter than I, having years of experience with all sorts of techniques and stitches. He's in charge of writing the instructions using standard US crochet notation, a language which I'm still working on learning. Although I've been crocheting for more than 10 years, I still count myself as a beginner because I haven't ventured much further than the basic stitches. Charts are my preferred method of pattern reading and writing. For me, the charts look pretty close to the finished fabric that I'll be making, so it's easier to figure out where each stitch is meant to go. Whichever way you like your patterns, We've got you covered.

If you're like me - just starting out with crochet, possibly having some experience with other crafts - I want to assure you that this pattern is achievable. If you find yourself struggling, drop us an email or get help on the Knit Boldly discord server.

We’ve had so much fun developing this project in different colors and yarns. We hope you'll give it a try.
