Intro to Algorithmic Stitch Patterns Fri. Mar. 12 1:00 - 4:00 pm ACDT SOLD OUT
In this class we will create texture, colorwork or lace using rule based guides instead of restrictive instructions. Unlike a traditional pattern that always produces the same result, projects based on algorithms (rules) have an element of randomness. In the first part of the class, we will discuss how to create simple but unique stitch motifs and colorwork based on anything from the roll of dice to the number of steps you take in a day. We’ll go over a range of techniques that produce stunning results. I’ll demonstrate how to plan a temperature blanket inspired project from a set of data. Each student will work on a swatch or mini shawl in class using their own set of rules. Everyone will share their results and discuss how each rule affected the outcome of their stitch pattern.
Supplies: 4+ balls of yarn in any weight, Bring mostly solid colors. Needles /hooks in an appropriate size for your yarns, a pencil, paper or notebook. Dice will be available, but students are encouraged to bring their own.
Optional: Color Card for project yarn, coloring supplies to match your yarn, a set of data (such as daily average temperatures from 1975).
Fixing Mistakes in Brioche Knitting Sat. Mar. 13 9:00 am - 12:00 pm ACDT

If you enjoy knitting brioche stitch but still feel lost if a mistake occurs, this class will get you back on track. Brioche mistakes, like the stitch itself, are unique from other knitting mistakes and often require a special set of skills. In this class, we will look at the structure of brioche fabric and learn when and how to rip back multiple rows, fix laddered stitches, and even correct a missed increase or decrease. We will also learn how to spot mismatched, dropped or twisted tuck stitches. Each student will
cast on and begin a swatch of simple brioche stitch before class and are encouraged to follow along with demos of each fix. They will also have an opportunity to bring in their own brioche projects for help and advice.
Requirements: This class is best suited for students with a good understanding of basic 2-color brioche stitch who are ready to build their knowledge of brioche knitting.
Supply List: swatch on the needles (homework), 2 extra colors of yarn in worsted weight, extra set of #7 needles (or an appropriate size for your yarn), stitch holder, cotton crochet thread or thin string for a lifeline, tapestry needle, locking stitch markers, crochet hook.

Color-blocked Brioche Sat. Mar. 13 1:00 - 4:00 pm ACDT SOLD OUT
Brioche stitch and Intarsia colorwork are best friends. In fact, it’s easier to do intarsia with 2- color brioche than it is with stockinette or garter stitch!
In this class, we’ll review 2 color brioche stitch, then cast on a flat swatch.
Using a combination of shaping and intarsia, students will knit a wavy color
swatch. In the second half of class, students will learn how to modify their
swatch, how to work in the round, and how to add intarsia elements to existing brioche patterns
Homework: Bring in something you’ve knit in 2-color brioche. A flat swatch works fine.
Supplies: 3 colors of dk or worsted weight yarn, Circular Needles in a US #6 (4mm), stitch markers, a pencil and eraser, 2 different colored highlighters.
