Unexpected Knitting Tue. Nov. 17 12:30 - 2:30 pm Guild Meeting
A half hour talk about how an open mind and willingness to make mistakes has led to interesting swatches and eventually collections of new designs in my own work. Slides showing notebook pages, inspiration images and design process demonstrate how a small idea can grow
with experimentation and sometimes even mistakes become favorite new stitches.
Fox Paws Workshop Wed. Nov. 18 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Level: Experts and brave beginners, knit and purl stitches, increases and decreases as well as chart reading You'll begin by learning and practicing how to knit increases and decreases for a simple stacked stitch pattern. Then, color changes and color choices will be discussed. In the afternoon, you will start working on your own Fox Paws shawl and learn how to avoid, find, and correct mistakes.
Yarn: Worsted weight scrap yarn in multiple colors and 5 colors of yarn in the weight of your choice for a final project.
Needles: Size 8 (5mm) 20˝circular needles. Extra needles in adjacent sizes may be helpful.
Boardwalk Wrap Thurs. Nov. 19 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Boardwalk wrap and top are fun and wearable patterns with an airy, beachy feel. They use the open structure of the lattice stitch to create a summer weight fabric. The stitch has an open an airy texture with a geometric look unlike any other knit fabric, it resembles fillet crochet and is made from i-cords. This stitch is easy to learn, and once you know it, the possibilities are endless, including colorwork, lace, and border treatments that other stitches just cannot do. In this class we learn the basic lattice stitch and a few variants on the openwork
texture, and then cast on a Boardwalk Wrap (or top) using what we’ve learned. Students will
leave ready to make modifications to the gauge and size of the wrap, spot and fix mistakes,
and to explore their own creative uses for this invaluable technique.
Requirements: This class is best suited for intermediate level knitters or adventurous
beginners who have experience reading patterns and working basic increases and decreases.
Supplies: 1 color of fingering weight yarn, scraps are fine, 1-3 skeins of fingering weight yarn
for a final project, and needles in a size 5 and 6.

Colorwork Games Thurs. Nov. 19 1:00 - 4:00 pm
If you love playing with geometry and want to combine your fiber arts with some fun math puzzles and games, this class is made for you! The class begins with an introduction to tiled patterns. We’ll look at Truchet tiles and learn how to use rotational symmetry to turn a simple group of tiles into varied designs. Students will have chance to cut out, fill in, and play with their own tile sets. Once we’ve made some fun patterns with simple tiles, we’ll move on to edge matched tiling. These tile sets are used to create random patterns that look seamless (think of randomly generated maps in video games). These tile sets are surprisingly easy to create, and we will go over various strategies for creating edge matched tiles. Students will have time in class to create their own colorwork tile sets on paper and explore the possibilities. At the end of class, students can share their colorwork designs.
Requirements: Students should be familiar with 2 color stranded colorwork, crochet colorwork, or quilt piecing.
Supplies: Graph Paper. A pencil or erasable pen. At least 2-3 colored pencils. Students will work on paper during class but are encouraged to bring 2 colors of yarn or 16-25 half-square triangles *just in case* they feel like working with textiles.
