When it’s time to select the right type of yarn for your next knitting or crochet project the fiber content of your yarn plays a crucial role in determining the success of your finished piece. Different fibers have unique properties that can affect the look, feel, durability and general outcome. This lecture breaks down
the key uses and properties of each different type of fiber to help you find the best yarns for your purpose, no matter what you’re trying to make.

Stroopwafel Shawl Oct. 23rd 16:30-18:30 BST/11:30 am-1:30 pm EDT
The Stroopwafel Shawl is has a lattice texture similar to that of the famous Dutch cookie. It’s a triangular shape with a weaving cable pattern. The all over texture makes the fabric thick and spongy for extra warmth. At the edge of the shawl, the cabled stitch pattern becomes lacy. Students will knit a miniature Stroopwafel shawl. Starting from the cast on, we will work each row together learning the increases, cables, and twisted stitches as we go. This is a great class for knitters who want to take their cable skills to the next level.
Requirements: This class is best suited for intermediate level knitters who have experience reading patterns and working basic increases and decreases.
Supplies: 1 color of DK weight yarn, 3 skeins for a final project, and needles in a size 7 and 9.

Colour-Blocked Brioche Oct. 24rd 16:30-18:30 BST/11:30 am-1:30 pm EDT
Brioche stitch and Intarsia colorwork are best friends. In fact, it’s easier to do intarsia with 2- color brioche than it is with stockinette or garter stitch! In this class, we’ll review 2 color brioche stitch, then cast on a flat swatch. Using a combination of shaping and intarsia, students will knit a wavy color swatch. In the second half of class, students will learn how to modify their swatch, how to work in the round, and how to add intarsia elements to existing brioche patterns.
Homework: Bring in something you’ve knit in 2-color brioche. A flat swatch works fine.
Supplies: 3 colors of dk or worsted weight yarn, Circular Needles in a US #6 (4mm), stitch markers, a pencil and eraser, 2 different colored highlighters.
