Learning Stacked Stitches with the Fascination Wrap

This introductory class will enable knitters of all levels to try out the technique in a swatch and become confident working patterns that incorporate stacked stitches. We will focus on mastering the increase and decrease stitches and learn several strategies for avoiding problems and fixing mistakes.

Requirements: This class is best suited for intermediate level knitters or adventurous beginners who
have experience reading patterns and working basic increases and decreases.
Supplies: Worsted weight scrap yarn in multiple colors, circular needles with a flexible cord in a corresponding
size to your yarn and a few adjacent sizes (metal or plastic needles are strongly recommended), stitch
markers. Optional materials: scratch paper, highlighter tape, and a digital row counter.

Make a Mini Glenbrook Pull-through Scarf

The Glenbrook Scarf is designed for less knitting and more warmth. It is half the
length of a traditional winter scarf, but the pull-through channel allows you to easily
and securely tie this scarf around your neck. When you aren’t wearing it, the scarf
rolls up and can be secured with the loop for tidy storage. In class, we will learn
multiple useful techniques that are used to create the scarf project. Stitches are cast
on using Judy’s Magic Cast On - an invisible cast on method, useful in stockinette
stitch projects. Students will work a few rows, then learn to join the ends of the fabric
into a tube or hem. The remainder of the scarf is worked in ribbing with yarns held
double. Towards the end of class, we will finish off the scarf by learning to work a
tubular bind off.
Requirements: This class is best suited for intermediate level knitters who have experience reading patterns and are ready to learn advanced techniques.
Supplies: 170 yards of DK weight yarn for the small project or 440 yds for the full sized scarf, Size 8 (5mm) circular needles with a 24-32” (60-80 cm) cord, Size 10 (6mm) needles, Tapestry
needle. You may want to bring some locking stitch markers to be used to hold live stitches.

Center Out Knitting

This class is a guided tour of the possibilities of center out accessories. We will look at 3 different cast on methods for center out projects and the unique strengths of each method. After casting on, we will try out different arrangements and types of increases to build different shawl, blanket, and scarf shapes such as a square or other regular polygon, rectangle, oblong, almond, and classic circular “pi” shawl. Many traditional lace and colorwork motifs can be converted to work with these shapes for spectacular results. By the end of the class, students will feel confident using these cast on methods to create center out accessories and add stitch and color patterns to various shapes.
Skill Level: Intermediate or advanced beginner

Fixing Brioche Mistakes

Brioche mistakes, like the stitch itself, are unique from other knitting mistakes and often require a special set of skills. In this class, we will look at the structure of brioche fabric and learn when and how to rip back multiple rows, fix laddered stitches, and even correct a missed increase or decrease. We will also learn how to spot mismatched, dropped or twisted tuck stitches. Each student will cast on and begin a swatch of simple brioche stitch before class and are encouraged to follow along with demos of each fix. They will also have an opportunity to bring in their own brioche projects for help and advice.
Requirements: This class is best suited for students with a good understanding of basic 2-color brioche stitch who are ready to build their knowledge of brioche knitting.
Supply List: swatch on the needles (homework), 2 extra colors of yarn in worsted weight, extra set of #7 needles (or an appropriate size for your yarn), stitch holder, cotton crochet thread or thin string for a lifeline, tapestry needle, locking stitch markers, crochet hook.
